Das Viral Marketing Experiment - Teil I

Auf Deutsch / In German:

Seit gestern habe ich ein lustiges Video von meinem Sohn Sebastian auf Youtube veroeffentlicht, und auf Facebook meinem Bekanntenkreis per Status Meldung mitgeteilt.

Leider hat kaum jemand etwas davon mitbekommen weil Facebook ja nur eine kleine Auswahl von Neuigkeiten aus dem Bekanntenkreis anzeigt, und wie es filtert ist mir noch nicht so klar. Also habe ich ein paar Leuten die online waren es per facebook chat mitgeteilt, und die fanden das sofort superwitzig... an Video lag es also nicht :-)

Da kam mir der Gedanke, es doch mal den Spammern nachzumachen, und meine Bekannten zu bitten es an ihre Bekannten weiterzutragen, und ausserdem bei youtube den 'Like' button zu clicken damit ich auch mitbekomme wieviel views ich bekomme... Hier ist meine message die ich nach ein paar versuchen mit ca. 10 Leuten verwendet habe:

Bislang sind wir bei 66 views und 7 likes. Mhm, das mag daran liegen dasz man bei Youtube als benutzer angemeldet sein muss damit like geht. Warum das nicht schneeballmaessig weiterging, liegt moeglicherweise daran, dasz die direkt von mir angeschriebenen nicht den gleichen text mit Weitergabeauffordering verwendet haben, das wuerde 10+10*5 = 60 views erklaeren... vielleicht waere es schlauer gewesen den text auch als Kommentar an das Video anzuhaengen?

Mal sehen ob dieser Blog Beitrag zu mehr views fuehrt :-)

As of yesterday I posted a funny video of my son Sebastian on youtube, and told my facebook friends about it by sharing it in my status message. Unfortunately next to nobody noticed, since facebook only gives you a small selection of all that happens in your list of friends, and what the filter rules are is not clear to me. So I told a few people that where online via facebook chat, and they loved it... so it was not that the video was boring :-)

So then I figured, why not do like spammers do it, and ask my friends to tell some of their friends as well and click on youtubes 'like' so I can track how many views and likes I get for it... Here is my refined message that I sent to about 10 people:

So far we have 66 views and 7 likes. Might be that you have to be registered and logged into youtube in order to be able to click like on it. But why did it not snowball into a lot more views ? Perhaps because the friends asked 5 of their friends to look at it, but did not convince them to tell 5 of their friends, maybe they did not use the same text that I had used...

That would explain the ballpark of 10+10*5 = 60 views... maybe I should have added the above pitch text also as a comment on the video page?

Lets see if this blog entry leads to more views :-)

Moving from wordpress.com - fliegend in die Zweisprachigkeit

Ein neues Gesicht auf blogger.com

In English:

I like wordpress for its analytic features (see what posts where seen how often and how it was found) akin to what flickr does for photos, as well as the spam-guarding comments etc.

But overall it seems a bit unflexible, so I am trying out something new here. I am impressed by some of the blogs that I see on blogger.com that are refreshingly creative... now my creative experiment will be to blog always in german and english. This might help the english or german learning audience, and compared to googles translation services I hope the quality of translation is better.

Now one interesting question is - should I write in english and translate to german, or vice versa? Maybe take turns? This first post was written in english, so my thoughts came from the english-speaking side of me, which is somewhat funny considering that my primary language is german...

Auf Deutsch:

Wordpress.com gefaellt mir wegen seiner analytischen Tools (man sieht welche Postings wie oft angesehen und wie sie gefunden wurden), genau wie flickr.com fuer Photos, und Kommentare haben einen Spam-filter etc. Aber generell erscheint es etwas unflexibel, und so will ich etwas neues ausprobieren. Mich haben einige der erfrischend kreativen Blogs auf blogger.com beeindruckt, und mein Beitrag (kreatives Experiment) wird sein, alle Beitraege in Deutsch und Englisch zu verfassen. Das koennte auch fuer Englisch und Deutsch lernende Leser interessant sein, und die Uebersetzung ist hoffentlich besser als was google translate ausspucken wuerde.

Eine Interessante Frage dabei ist - sollte ich auf Englisch schreiben und dann auf Deutsch uebersetzen und umgekehrt? Vielleicht abwechselnd? Dieses erste Posting war in Englisch verfasst, und so sind die Gedanken von meinem Englisch-Sprachigem Selbst formuliert, was etwas komisch ist, weil meine Muttersprache eingentlich deutsch ist...
